Plus size models are carving their own path to success, and it’s becoming more and more common that we see plus size models gracing the pages of some of the top glossy magazines such as Elle and Vogue.

Robyn Lawley and Tara Lynn are a testament to curvy women everywhere, and have faced mainstream fashion head on. Crystal Renn is one of the names who has also had a massive impact on the fashion circuit, and bringing curvy women into the spotlight.

Who is Crystal Renn?

 

Crystal Renn is a top model who has walked for designers such as Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, and featured in magazines such as VogueElleHarper’s BazaarVanity Fair and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue to name a few.was approached by a model scout at a young age, and told that she could go places if she lost 60 pounds. She took the advice to heart and lost the weight in a year and at 14 years old she found herself living in New York, pursuing a modeling career. She was exercising round the clock and eating as lightly as possible to maintain her new size zero figure, and eventually she found she couldn’t sustain it any longer.

Curvy again, she decided to say au revoir to the fashion world and go into plus size modeling instead. In her new book Hungry: A Young Model’s Story of Appetite, Ambition, and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves, Crystal talks out about being a curvy girl in a skinny world. A definite ‘must read’ for all you budding plus size models out there.

Crystal Renn praises plus size models

The 26-year-old plus size model recently spoke at an event organised by the National Eating Disorders Awareness Organisation and the Model Alliance at Pace University in America. In her speech, she gave particular praise to designer Zac Posen for trying to diversify the catwalk with his use of models of all sizes. Crystal said “By having a size eight sample, you are giving freedom to a designer…Most of the models are going to be size sixes and eights, and you could have tens. If a really amazing model walked in who was a size zero, you would tailor the dress down to her.”

As Crystal puts it so well herself, “It is about being healthy, not skinny.”
